COST OF REMOVING TEERIBLE PAINT JOB
What would the cost be to soda blast a 17 whaler inside and out.
I picked up a 17 that the prior owner did a horrible job painting it. http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...t=111_5261.jpg http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...t=111_5258.jpg http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...t=111_5259.jpg The paint is now peeling and flaxing off but I figured for $200 I could get it and have it stripped and redo. Or will peel away which is for stipping bottom paint also work on the topside? Or suggestions |

Peel-Away will work.

Re: COST OF REMOVING TEERIBLE PAINT JOB
I had the bottom of my hull soda blasted in 2001 out of Jackson marine in Fort Lauderdale. They charged me $600 just for the bottom of the boat. It had several coats of bottom paint on it. I repainted and regelcoated the boat. The out side (water line up) was white painted and I sanded all that off to the gel coat and then painted it blue. I re gel coated the bottom. I guess you could soda blast the whole boat but you could get pitting like I did on the bottom of my boat that had to be repaired before I could go forward. Usually soda blasting is just for bottom paint. Here are some pictures.

Re: COST OF REMOVING TEERIBLE PAINT JOB
I've been using a product called Aqua Strip for the deck in my 20' sf. It had at least two coats of topside paint. The stuff is working great. I highly recommend it. It also works on bottom paint but I've only used it on the topside paint. The label claims that it will remove 10 layers of bottom paint. The stuff doesn't seem too toxic and wont harm the gell coat. -will
