Just thinking about the optimal seating position for compromise between fishing room behind and foot room/comfort while driving. How far back do you guys have your leaning post? Any issues? Pics would be nice too! By the way, I am really thinking of 20' SF, but any input would be nice.
Thanks! |

I like to be able to reach the wheel if I lean forward while seated. Above and beyond that, just position it where it seems right to YOU.

There is a mathematical formula to determine the distance between the CC and the leaning post. I really can’t remember who came up with the formula but over the years it has proven to be most effective in determining the inches from the CC to the leaning post.
THE RELATIVE SPACE FORMULA Captains height x Captains weight = A Captains beer consumption per day on the water X Captains beer consumption of average day = B Captains age x amount of days on the water X amount of days off the water at the bar talking about fishing = C Now here is where it gets a little tricky. Captains girth X potential girth over a 15 year period = D Then you just multiply that out and divide buy you current fathers waist size and you got the exact distance in inches. Hope that helps. I was in a bind with mine because I had to leave enough room to open my engine compt.(which tilts forward) on the i/o and still have enough room between the post and console to drive boat and get into the console. The best advice I can give you is to put the post on the boat without fastening it and think about all of the things you do on the boat and how you move around. Will you need access to your console? Do you want to be able to sit and drive. This one may sound funny, but depending on how big your feet are (I wear a 13), is it easy for you to get between the console and the post? The last thing you want to do is have that thing bolted down and then realize that it drives you crazy every time you try to do something on the boat.
Good luck. |

I`ll be mounting mine next week. I got some 4 square 1x4 teak and made some pads to permanently mount to to the deck and screwed the post on top. I then wrapped the pads in plastic and taped some plastic on the deck. I shot a whole tube of white caulk on the bottom of the pads and put the post where I wanted it.. 2 batteries on top. This made cants for the crown and pitch in the deck for a nice level fit, and less stress on the deck.

When I positioned mine I only considered it as a leaning post. Come to find out, you can stay seated most of the time while driveing a SeaCraft. Now I wish I was a little closer to the console. As for measurments at its closest point, the steeringwheel ring is level with top of the post seat and 14" away. Tilt steering would probably give you more options.
