Default Galley Seat Addition

Here's some before & after photos of a Galley Seat I got from another CSC member. Replaced the rotted plywood with Azek PVC foam board covered with Formica. The big opening cut into aft face and trimmed with teak was not B/M and is a no-go for rough seas (anything put thru it will come back out when you start bouncing around! ). That big hole also weakens the aft panel, and since these things appear to be made up just using a chopper gun without any roving, I decided to reinforce with a couple layers of 1708 and epoxy inside all radii, around the bottom mounting points, and all around that big hole which was a real ragged cut done with a sawzall. I covered the hole with another piece of Azek and then installed a hatch. Couldn't find any fuel canisters for old stove, so substituted a newer butane fueled stove; drilled some holes for stove legs to fit into, which hold it real well. It's too big to nest into sink like old stove, so it's just stored under the seat. Had some oil base paint made up to match the gel coat and painted all the added stuff. Used some Polyglo on the gelcoat. Cleaned up better than expected. Now I guess I'll have to do something about the ratty looking faded contact paper on the bulkhead! Nothing beats having an old boat if you want a never-ending project!

Now when your wife throws you out for working on the boat so much....you really won't mind.

Nice job. You can come on over any time and get dusty on my project.

Looks sweet Denny. All you need now is some wasabi , pickled ginger and a sesame /soy citrus marinade. Yum Yum

Absolutely - am planing to sleep and cook aboard, in fact, probably anchored off Skip & Carla's site. Just have to get the onboard fresh water shower hooked up!
