Another Splaswell Bites the Dust! Thoughts?

Here we go guys..... took the blade to the glass and have to admit it felt good. Now I need a good plan for how to end up with the finished product I want. Going to keep the baitwell in place and repairing the hatches/covers while I have it all pulled out. I'm looking for some advice on how best to cover the gap I have now for strength and ease of finishing/gelcoating. I know some guys here have made this similar rebuild. I'm trying to find the threads but would love to hear any thoughts on how the gap was spanned to give strength to an area that will be stood on.

I plan to install a door that folds down to keep any wash from coming into the floor. Debating on adding a small lip around the flat part where the gap is now to keep any water that may come from the baitwell from coming out onto the floor. Thoughts? Biggest issue for me is figuring out how to support the areas near each corner that are now floating in mid-air. Support from beneath? or use glasswork alone to support the areas by bonding it to the vertical portion or the old splashwell. Thanks for any input! Here's pictures of the carnage. Before and after.
