Default outboard price

i recently purchased a 1976 MA potter hull. i just replaced transom and decided to buy a newer efi motor. considering the tank is on 50 gallons im going to need somethign with a little less gas consumption. my question pertaisn to the motor which came wit the boat. it is an early 90's 200 hp evinrude which could use some paint but was running great when removed. suposably it has less than 20 hrs on rebuild. im just curious what an appropriate askign price woudl be? from what i hear i shouldnt expect more than $1000.00 but the previous owner invested almost 3k on the rebuild. what would be an apporopriate price? thanks in advance.

Rebuilt powerhead alone for that size/era motor is being sold all over the web for $2000-2500.
Can't even find a solid, running 150 from that era for less than 2K. Of course it depends where you are and if there is enough demand in your market for used motors. Even though gas is high, it's even harder for many to justify 15k for a new rig so I'm guessin' no matter where you are, there's someone looking for a solid older 200 Evinrude. I think 1K is a lowball figure... There's one on ebay listed for $2500. Post it on the nearest metro boattrader or craigslist for 2500 or so, and see what kind offers your get. Maybe I'm high, but no sense in leaving money on the table.
