Default How much pressure can the bow and stern eyes take?

We flipped Will's SF20 last week, but he had a Bobcat, which I do not have, so I have to get a bit more creative. So... my question to you is how much punishment can the bow and stern eyes take? Could you pick up the boat just with those or would that be a very bad idea with no central support?

Depends on how rotten your transom is.

...like mulch around the swim platform holes, but sounds fairly solid on the rest.

A marina tried to lift my 18' that way once.... the stern eyes popped right out of the boat (yes, the boat was overdue for a transom job).

And be very careful if they are original. The stern eyes on my Tsunami had cravive corrosion under nut on the inside.
When I tried to remove the nut it simply snapped right off.
That was the case with all of them. The full weight of the boat on them wouldn't have been safe at all....

Sorry Mark, but I couldn't help but laugh. I am sure it was not amusing at the time. Bayouboy, my boat is original so I guess I will have to think of some other method. A transom job is in the works but probably won't happen until my gunwale repairs are finished and who knows when that will be since the fish are biting.
Thanks for the info!

Here's a shot of my original stern eyes. They looked perfect from the outside.....but I broke off the three nuts just using a box end wrench. Definitely could have broken with the full weight of a boat on them.

That crevice corrosion bayouboy speaks of is legit. So much for stainless. During its development, the stealth fighter had problems w/titanium parts cracking due to chloride ions wreaking havoc -- they had been cleaned with bleach... And you guys thought chemistry was boring.
Here's a link with some good info about crevice corrosion.

I just replaced the bow eye on my 75 20MA and the same thing happened, loosening the nut with a box wrench just snapped it like nothing.
