Re: Ike
I initially thought Ike was coming our way, so we know what you're looking at! That's a HUGE storm! One thing the folks here learned during Andrew is that the garage door is potentially the biggest weakest link in your house, assuming the windows are protected. An insurance adjuster I spoke to said most of the houses that lost the garage door also lost their roof! One way to brace the door if it's not hurricane rated is put to put some 2x4's against it and then back car bumper up against the 2x4's.
The projections say it's gonna hit at high tide, so I hope you're on high ground! The moving water can cause some really serious damage! In case you haven't already seen them, here's a couple of good sites for tracking the storm: web page Weather underground Dr. Jeff Masters provides much good info on latter site. Fortunately I believe you still have Dr. Neil Frank in Houston, who will provide lots of good advice. He was director of the NHC and spoke at one of our engineering society meetings here years ago. He's a great guy and was on a crusade about warning people to get away from the storm surge! We'll definitely keep you in our prayers! Keep us posted on how you make out! Denny
