Trim/Tilt Pump on 225 Mercury
Ok people, my starboard motor trim/tilt pump is humming, but takes a minute literally to move. Is there a fluid fill on it or is it DOA??

Re: Trim/Tilt Pump on 225 Mercury
You've probably already resolved it but, hum and slow does sound like low hydraulic fluid, or low battery/bad contact. My last hum was low reservoir (re-filled). See any fluid or film around trim hoses that may suggest a hose, o-ring or fitting leak? Don't know yer motor so don't know about refill... What year models are your motor and trim motor? I think most of the late models have fill hole on port side near top of reservoir. Usually @ least a 1/4" screw or bolt.

Re: Trim/Tilt Pump on 225 Mercury
im not sure about the 225 tilt bracket but on my mid 90's 200 bracket when the engine is up there is a fill screw on the left side of it. if you open it and no fluid comes out it might need some fluid. fill it till its full and runs back out put the screw back in and try it out. i used regular atf in mine.

Re: Trim/Tilt Pump on 225 Mercury
sounds good. thanks for the help. these 1996 225's have been running well, ask Briguy we got close to 60mph before she got a bit to tuff to control at the Desoto Gathering. With gas back down, using the boat makes sense again

Re: Trim/Tilt Pump on 225 Mercury
Danny, sounds like low fluid...
Check for residue of fluid around the ram seals. Go to any FBO, (Airport) look for any flight operations and get a gallon of red hydraulic fluid. ATF is Ok, but the red has no bad stuff in it that can further damage your seals. Texaco brand is what I have always used in the TNT and the Bennett reservoir.. See ya, Ken

Re: Trim/Tilt Pump on 225 Mercury
For sure sounds like low fluid. ATF worked for me in my old yami's. You may want to take off a lid from some other container that has a little pop up thingee. It makes it easier to squirt in the little hole without getting atf everywhere.
Also I think the gps said 65 not 60!

Re: Trim/Tilt Pump on 225 Mercury
Snookered, I see you have twin 225's how does the hull handle them in relation to the scuppers? I just bought an 81 it also has twins, the previous owner had plugs laying on the floor next to the scupper drains so I kind of figured they would be neccessary, I have yet to put the boat in the water no heartburn if I have to use them. Can't wait till spring to try her out..gonna be a long winter.
