Finally got a chance to get out with new motor on the "Big"
Bay. After 20 more Gallons of 25:1 and break in completed. Getting 38 MPH. WOT at 5100. This is with a 112 Evinrude, bubble back exhaust bored .020. Will raise Motor 1". Shop set it up with Anti cav plate a hair below keel ( They said OMC says to put motor on 2nd hole ) Im running a 13.25 X 17 right now, I'll see what raising motor does to get up to Mid 5000's RPM. 4' Chop in Galveston Bay to start. Got closer to Jetty's and it smoothed out. 25 MPH winds. A little wet, but handled it nicely, had 3yr old grandson aboard. He fell asleep on the way out so it must have been OK to him. Ran 65 miles Saturday and burned 22 Gallons, but this was varying RPMS from 2500-4500 for 3 hours to complete break in. All in all not bad. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Still have some additions to complete. I have a teak Swim ladder to put on, Im building teak sliding doors for CC, putting the shelf back under the CC, Adding LED interior accent lighting, Just installed my Northstar F-201 fuel comp. Gotta install my stereo. Hope to be completed by EOM. then comes spring fishin''''.. Its been alot of elbow grease and dirty hands ., stiff body ( up under the console), but I can see the fruits of my labor. It was basically an empty hull with no motor, cables, controls, wiring, cushions. Resurrection !! I've learned quite bit about OMC outboards and boat wiring, still an apprentice to this boat restoring thing Amen. This the day I picker her up ![]() Now its more like this ![]() |

Raise the engine at LEAST 1 hole, I would almost say 2 - it needs to be at least 1" above, good results for that motor though and you'll like it sooo much better withn the motor higher

Hole shot is OK. It would be better with a 15P, but the 17P gets up on plane pretty quickly, this motor is more like a 120 HP due to slightly larger pistons. A doel fin or stingray would probably help a bit, but I don't want to take any top end away right now. I will raise the motor this weekend and test it.
Maybe go to stainless Prop to reduce wear due to my encounters with shallow bars and shell. All in all Im pretty happy. Its pretty light in the rear and it handles and rides real nice. Reduced Gas consumption is a nice benfit. My Brothers 21' SeaRay Laguna CC with a 95' 200 merc offfshore burned 12 more gallons than me on the same 65 mile trip. I burned 22 he burned 35. Yea he can go 44 MPH and I can only get 38-39, but once I raise motor and get my 5500 RPMS we will be a little bit closer. I read in the literature that the VDR hulls on the Classics will be 10 % faster than other V-Hulls |

STAY AWAY FROM THE DOLFIN IF YOU CAN THEY PUT ALOT OF STRESS ON THE BUSHINGS BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND THE BASE.. I FOUND OUT FROM A MECHANIC FRIEND AFTER THE FACT
