Default Tabbing/glassing deck to inner liner - ideas?

Curious to know how folks have approached this - I've just installed a new deck and am preparing to reglass it to the inner liner on my 20 SF. I've ground down the gelcoat on the liner where it meets the deck, up to around 4", but am not quite sure how far into the layup I should grind to ensure a good transition. Assuming far enough so that there aren't any bumps and the new glass can be faired out sufficiently.

Another question I've been pondering is just what weight glass fabric folks have used for this type of layup? A few layers of biax, or just mat then a lighter cloth, like 6 oz? Or should I be considering something like 1708 for the first layer to connect the deck to liner, then finish up with a lighter cloth?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated here - and as always, thanks in advance.

I haven't gotten this far with my restoration but your 4" of grinding would be what I would do. This will be an area with a lot of stress so I'm thinking alternating four layers of biax(15oz) and 1708 stepping each strip up from 2", 4" 6 & 8" to match the recess you've made. Then finish with matt(1.5oz).
