Repower
I have a 1977 Seacraft 23 CC. Presently I have twin 150 Mercurys. I am thinking about repowering with a single. Any suggestions on size? I was thinking about a 275.

Re: Repower
Anything 225 and up will work great, the 300's maybe harder to find a deal on since they are newer - 250 and up is perfect

Re: Repower
I just repowered from a 225hp merc to a 300hp Etec on my Tsunami. With a HH GPS I topped out at just over 45mph (just under 40 knots); 2mpg @ about 20gph. Cruise was about 30mph/26 knots; 3mpg @ about 10 gph. Keep in mind this was with a handheld over a short run in one direction on a brand new engine trying to keep one hand on the wheel, one on the throttle and one on the GPS with one eye ahead of me, one on the fuel meter and one on the GPS speed. On top of that it was two weeks ago and I'm going from memory and this is an internet message board. Take it all with a grain of salt. I'm not too concerned about getting real numbers until the boat is rigged with the hardtop.....also, no tabs yet
I was going to go with a 250 but the price differential to 300hp was reasonable and there was no weight penalty since it's the same block. At least in theory, I should see a fuel savings in being able to run at a lower rpm and swing a bigger prop as opposed to the 250hp. All that said, when it ran, the old 225hp moved the boat pretty well too. What kind of performance are you looking for? Do you need to be able to waterski behind the boat?

Re: Repower
No I do not think we will be water skiing. I want the perforamce but do not need the twins. I was/am headed for either a 250 or a 300. I was leaning toward the 300 for the same reason. Thanks.

Re: Repower
I have a merc 225 and would love to have twins. why don't you want to keep them? I can push about 43 mph with a 17 mirage. Im not interested in top speed as much as reliable and fuel consumption. what kind of burn rates do you have? I think we need a Charleston Seacraft chapter!
