Default Pre-1972 Hull Identification Numbers

Hello Everybody! My name is Mike and I'm a new member to the site. I currently own a 1997 16' HOOG and am on the hunt to replace it with a Classic Sea Craft. I am currently looking at a boat that has been freshly restored. It is titled as a 1968 hull and has a closed transom. The owner states that the boat originally had an inboard/outboard making the closed transom original. Is this possible? Also, the title has a 6 digit Hull Identification Number on it...is this something that was issued by the state or is there some way to verify the originality of the HIN and the originality of the Hull. Any information would be great! I'm trying to become as educated as I can to avoid getting involved with a Pandora's box.

By the way, how does one add pictures to a posting? I'd like to post some photos of the boat.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site. If it's really a '68 boat, it would be a late Moesly boat (check out Moesly SeaCraft web site for more info), one of the best built of all SeaCrafts IMHO. The USCG did not require a HIN back then, but it may have a Hull serial number on it somewhere, either on a metal plate or a metallic foil sticker. What model is it? If it's a Moesly boat, Carla (alias 65 Bowrider) might have a better idea of where to look for it.

Capt. Chuck, we're getting a lot of questions on posting photos lately - could you somehow ressurect and lock that thread you had telling folks how to post pics? Maybe put it at top of photos section. Denny

Hi Denny,

I'm pretty sure Capt. Chucks thread is still there at the top of "Seacraft Photos" entitled "How to post your picture". Just reading it again...I do believe I owe Capt. Chuck a beer

Almost certainly, a Moesly Designed Hull. It looks like it may be a cut(freeboard) down 21. I see the nice tumble home, Transom Cap, the hull bottom is the big identifier, no reverses, flats, no strakes, and deep forefoot. Can't quite make out the depth of the longitudinal steps. I have spent hours Marveling at the 21 hull bottom. I am sure this is a Moesly. Not sure about it being a 21, I don't see the depth on the steps and the large flat spot on the keel at the transom.

Looking real close at the picture it is a 19' Bow Rider that has been converted. For sure the side storage compartments and the tow rail on the bow are the give a way.

The real test is to pull a tape...from the tip of the bow to the end of the transom. A 21 is EXACTLY 21.

Looks real sharp regardless.

Recently I have had to delete several posts / threads that are in violation of CSC rules refereance to Boats FOR SALE or BOATS WANTED. The Admin. is very strick when it comes to adhering to these giudelines!

This site does not operate for free. It relies on your donations & the $25 one time fee for the listing of boats for sale. (NO fee for boat gear or misc items for sale)
Other than the 3,000+ members signed up on this site, there are many web surfers. When someone pays their fee then posts their photos & ad it is now open to the web community for viewing and more likly than not will result in a sale.

Please understand, that when a For Sale ad from Craigslist, another web site, publication, friend or from wherever is posted on this site, the result is "Free Advertising" for that person. This creates an unfair advantage to the people who have legitimately paid for their post

Please try and comform to these regulations. You can send your other boat photos and ads, boats wanted etc. via a private message

Thank you
Capt Chuck
