Default 1970 20' SF

Well guys...I've won the Classic SeaCraft lottery! In preparation for the restoration of my 1972 20' i/0 I had a conversation with an old friend. We hadn't talked in about a year and I contacted him for counseling regarding our Florida Gators and our 'drop from the top'.

In conversation, I brought up the SeaCraft project at which time he made me the offer of a lifetime...His 1970 20' SF owned since new, garage kept under a cover since the day it came home, repowered in 1983 with a 200hp Merc, new gas tank, all maintenance records, etc. etc. It's a time capsule! Here are some pics...

Power will stay the same for now. I plan to get a fresh aluminum trailer, clean up the wiring, add some electronics (GPS/stereo), custom cover, a good compound and wax job, and burn some fuel!

NICE find - it is indeed a time capsule! It appears to have the Moesly-type scuppers draining out the transom instead of the Potter-designed drains out the bottom.

Would be interested to know if the drains are crossed under the deck, i.e., does stbd scupper drain out port side, etc.?

That baitwell "water pump" and overflow design is another clever Moesly idea - couldn't be simpler and works pretty well, given the limitations of a retangular well. Later versions had the cup on the inside, with a bunch of 1/8" drain holes in a circular pattern the outer fiberglass skin, with a 3/8" hole in center for water supply line. It's adequate for what little live bait fishing I do and I kept the basic design when I added the bracket, even though the flotation tank covered up that section of the transom. If you make up another 3/8" dia. length of copper tube with a 45 degree cut on end and attach a length of 3/8" ID hose to it, you'll have a simple washdown hose you can use while running on plane!

It can be a transom killer however! Suggest you pull off that flange and make sure it's sealed really well. I pulled mine apart from inside years ago and found it had started to leak, but caught it before it had gone very far. Dried it out and sealed with epoxy and a threaded PVC union glued to transom skin and sealed with a PVC plug.

Mosely indeed...however, the scuppers do not cross under the deck.

The story goes that the previous owner was friends with the Moesly's. They went skiing off of one of Mr. Mosely's boats and he fell in love with the 20'ers. He was turned on to this boat via reference and direction provided by Mr. Mosely.

Michael-
I wondered what happened when I saw your 20 I/O back for sale on CL. Now I understand. Great mint 70. Seriously well kept! Ditto on the Mako wheel . What is the deal with the I-6 250 motor on the I/O? That 200 Merc on the 70 is strong.
