Default Fishing plans for a 20' CC.

Aloha,

Well, I scored my dream boat, and am liking it more and more by the day. Even just working on it is proving to be a good time, seeing her potential.

My question is fishability and my plans for building her up. I eventually want to build a doghouse for her, and make her the only doghouse boat in Hawaii, but until then I've come up with some plans for her, and I'm trying to figure out how realistic they are.

I want to be able to quickly convert her from an offshore fish slayer to a family boat for the meantime. I have been toying with the idea of mounting outriggers directly to the CC to allow the ability to walk around. Of course Id build extremely beefy baseplates to mount on the inside, and run 4 lines out the back. I have an 8' VHF whip that I would like to mount on the front of the CC, but put a connecter at the base to allow for easy removal. I don't want to invest in a TTop just to end up trading it up for the doghouse, I want to have easy access to the bow while fishing, and as far as sun/wind/rain protection offshore, I'll gain that through raingear and a wide brimmed hat. The other reason for not getting a ttop at the moment is so on family days/dive days/crabbing days (close to shore stuff) I can pull the outriggers and the antenna and put the bimini up. I have a handheld VHF for when I'm nearshore.

Please point out the flaws in my plan, any experience you might have, or if you think I'm just plain nuts. I appreciate any help I can get.

That will work, but not well. Been there, done that. Similar reasoning. I mounted baseplates to the console of a 25' Robalo CC, and I had to duck beneath the outriggers when they were deployed. And then I still had to hand the rod around the outrigger rigging.
I'm 6'2", and I had to duck way down to clear the poles, and forgot about the outrigger lines coming back to the gunwale anyway. After a few months, I moved the base plates to the gunwales. Console mount ended being a PITA. In 4 or 5 months, I had to fight a fish past the outriggers maybe 2 or 3 times, and I still had to duck beneath the poles, and hand the rod around the outrigger lines. FWIW.

i think the doghouse idea is a pretty neat idea. as far as outriggers go, id put them in the gunwales too. thats where they are on my 20sf. i hardley use them though.

Yeah, I definately see the point in that. Did you ever try rerigging it differently. I guess it wouldn't make too much difference. I'll most likely end up giong to the gunwhales. It does make more sense.

I'll still make the fishslayer though!

Yeah, I'm real stoked about the doghouse. My brother runs one in Rhode Island, so I'm going to work off that, but with exception of basics, I've got some customizing ideals that I'm stoked on. Eventually the outriggers are going to mount directly to that, so that will take that question out of the mix completely.
