20'SF with a 130hp?
How will a 20 perform with a Yamaha 130? I'm sure the 150 would be faster but weight is a concern.
Any opinions? Thanks, BoniB

Re: 20'SF with a 130hp?
You are wise to pay attention to weight, especially if you plan to run offshore very much in any sort of chop! The 20' hull is pretty light and will start going airborne in 3' head seas at speeds over about 20 kts. In those conditions, a 130 is plenty of power and it'll ride better with that relatively light motor than with a heavier motor because your boat won't be so stern heavy.
You have to remember that when Carl Moesly designed these boats in the mid-60's, the heaviest outboards were about 300 lbs! As motor weight goes above that, you're shifting CG aft from the original design, so min planing speed goes up and your running angle isn't as flat as it was intended to be. These boats don't have as much beam as newer boats, so you can't hang a 500 lb 4-stroke on them and expect them to ride like they were designed to! Denny
