Default Long Island? Any recommendations?

Looks like I will be working in Long Island, Ny for a little while. Any recommendations for tackle shops, boat yard, boat porn, etc in the area? Will be looking for something to do. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Not to be a wise guy - or maybe to be one....
Long Island is kind of ...well...long, and it is an island so water is...

Anyway, can you narrow down the area you are looking at?

Montauk, Massapequa, Hampton Bays, Valley Stream, Orient Point ?
Depends on which end you are at...
Have family out in the Hamptons.
Real nice and pricey the further out the Island you go.
How long have you been sentenced to this extreme?
Just kiddin'

I am a born and raised Long Islander. I have been transplanted to Vermont and spend my winters in Ft. Lauderdale. L.I is 120 miles long and about 15 miles wide at its widest point. If you are on the western part you will be close to Queens, Brooklyn and Manahtten (alot of people). As you travel East through Nassau County it is a little less populated. When you enter Suffolk County it will change from urban to country. The fishing is great throughout, especially Stripers and blues. If you go all the way to Montauk Pt you will be in fishing heaven. As a kid I dug steamer clams, crabbed, and lots of little necks and mussels. The Tuna fishing is great off shore. Let me know where you will be or what your options are and I'm sure I can advise you. If you can trailer your boat you will enjoy some great fishing anf fun. It is not all city!!!

Let me know when you're in town. Depending on the season I may be able to put you into some good fishing.

Hummmm......you do know it's colder than a "a well digger's ass" this time of year?? I have family in East Hampton and the high for today was a smooth 19 degrees. Oh yeah, it could be worse, go to "The Hamptons" in the summer and a beer is around $5 to $7 at most any bar you go to. Enjoy and have fun!

Thanks guys,
Well I drove from Buffalo to Woodbridge, NJ today and should start working over the weekend. Looks like I will be mostly on the western end. I am going to try to make the treck to Mantauk. Seems like one of those places I need to see. Not sure if there will be much to see this time of year, but I can say I have been there and get the T-shirt.

If you're into getting out and getting fresh air, there are great walks/hikes all around montauk. point this time of year and nobody around. I do a lot of surfcasting out there in other seasons and the beaches are amazing. Most stores in town will be closed, but the lighthouse will be open-just check your hours before you go. The view from the top is pretty cool and the museum about the history of the lighthouse is very interesting, as far as that stuff goes.
There's a small seal colony that usually moves in this time of year on the north side beaches and they have walks to see them. (I know some of you cape cod guys wish they were hunting parties)
If you get off the beaten path out there you'll see some special scenery and between the town/state they have done a great job of preserving a lot of it.

Welcome to Long Island.
No need to go to Montauk. Plenty of great fishing closer to your base of operations. Think Sandy Hook, Jamaica bay, Sandy hook bay, etc. A good fishing web site is "NOREAST.COM"
Season is short but can very rewarding. Look up Billy the kid on this site. He fish's mid to north Jersey Hard.
Welcome to a underestimated fishing area.
