center console location
hello everyone. Thak you for allowing me to join your site. I have a quick question, I have a, you geussed it, 1969 secraft 20. The console seems to be located pretty far back in the boat (30" from splash well to console ). Is this correct for my year. My buddy has a 1971 and his console is probably 18" further forward. The problem is that with a 150 v max on there it sits concerningly low in the water at the back of the boat and the front is to light. hard to manuver in the wind.

Re: center console location
I also have a 69- 20CC and your location is correct. I considered moving console forward but did not. There is very little room for a leaning post or chair and still have room to fish so I have neither and sit on a cooler if needed. My boat self bails if no one is in the back of the boat.

Re: center console location
I was looking at my paperwork and I have the original brochure from 1969 as well as the options list with prices from a dealer in miami. Any ways the pic in the brochure shows the console being that far back. Interestingly in the specs it says the boat will do 35+ mph with 80hp motor and 40+ with 125hp. That being the case I ought to buy A 90hp yamaha and save a ton of fuel and solve the weight problem at the rear at the same time

Re: center console location
Although the console may be in its original position, keep in mind that it was originally designed for 275 lbs of motor. Your VMAX is probably over 450.
You may consider moving your console forward to the point of a safe and balanced ride or as you mentioned swap out the motor. The etec 90 is 325lb and would get you great efficiency and solve the weight/balance issue. I believe Tohatsus direct inject TDI 90 is 325lbs, also and generates the most power in that class. Evinrude v4s are also low threes as well. Sounds like you're a Yammie guy so you might consider the 2-s 130hp @ about 360lb. Either way moving your console to improve your center of gravity and balance will always help your ride, and your sure to exceed 35mph WOT with virtually any of these motor classes.

Re: center console location
When I got my 1970, the console was in the same location.
You could sit on the motor cowling and steer the boat! Opted for a lot smaller console during the rebuild and moved it forward. See ya, Ken
