Has anyone dove with or seen the 8 to 9ft great white off stuart the last few days..
I went out south of stuart inlet the last few days, kings have been really spread out. So I took out a friend of mine who currentyly holds world mutton snapper record spearfishing.. As a spotter.. I am way to much or a Chicken to dive anymore. So I brought him along Kick back and maybe two middle aged men will make some money today so we can pay the bills.. LOL WE are in sixty feet south of inlet and I see a big black shadow coming up real slow We think it is a bullshark or something so he goes down to see if he can shoot some cobia. Well he goes down and comes back up and tells me it is a great white well he puts on a rope and a dive ball and I follow them <NO CAMERA ONBOARD> It was docile and amazing I got about thirty seconds of sight on it and it did not even look real slow moving.. Back was over three feet in width. Truly amazing I ried to tell fwc officer at ramp but he said YOU HAVE BEEN IN the sun to long. Well I know many of you around the country have seen them pending area but for Florida It is rare.... I have seen A tiger at pecks lake in twenty ft of water eating mackeral and seen A mako or two close to shore and Offshore I have also heard about the Great white occasionaly spotted off the keys BUt never have seen this and hopefully never see again. I have tried to contact Marine science Peeps and all the proper authorities but no one seems to believe it or care.... <no im not drinking or doping it up> <maybe a few rocky patel cigars> but thats it. Well good luck and hope someone local spots it. |

Makes sense to me. They tagged a bunch of GWs off Chatham, Cape Cod this summer and I believe at least three or four of the SAT tags popped up off of Jacksonville.

A member of the WPB fishing club has a video of what was be determined to be either a Mako or Great White off of The Breakers; taken from his boat, probably 12 years ago.
The shark was feasting on a swordfish; they got their boat between the shark and the swordfish, gaffed the swordfish and brought what was left on board (over 200 lbs of salvageable meat w/ the back 1/3 gone, big swordfish). The shark was so annoyed, it made a run at the transom (Jaws style) and took a nice large chip out of a corner. Dr Ray Waldner has seen the video, but without a tooth from the shark, he stated it would be impossible for him to determine whether it was a Mako or GW, but that it was definitely one of the two. Any of you around from the late 90's w/ the WPB Fishing Club will probably recall the video, there was a complete monthly meeting devoted to the video and subsequent discussion. |

Chris, I don't doubt it at all. I've heard of sightings while swordfishing & considering the amount of cold water/weather this year they might make it into our waters. Your buddy has got a large pair on him to get back into the water though!

So my question is, will you ever go out without a camera again? That's one hell of a sighting, if that was on video you'd be a local celebrity!

There was a GW off Jacksonville a couple of years ago that was absolutely huge. My son was out about 27 miles and this one came around his boat. It was so big it scared him - he said it was longer than his boat - a 20 foot Seafox - and about five feet wide. Someone else got pics of it on another day but I can't locate them online any more.

Hi everyone, I thought I would have gotten beat up on this post..
I talked to Bob spickler Sr <perks bait and tackle>today about it and he laughed and said he was not surprised at all.. He said the original worlds record book had A great white caught off of palm beach with a harpoon from a submarine years ago <many years ago> He asked me r u sure it was not a Mako.. I said Positive I told him I never want to see one again and will stop fishing If I see one in attack mode... Ill be honest I wanted to Cry LOL Roflmao when I saw it. NO NOT GOING out without a camera anymore.. Been looking around the net all day. I have been seeing some really odd stuff around here in boynton and lantana lately... I was doing some light tackle fishing the other day and caught my first redfish <first in lantana> I pulled it up and could not believe my eyes.. I have been told when you spend many hours on the water you either start making money or losing money and you start seeing some really amazing things. I was out the other day only one out in morning off boynton I kept hearing splashes behind me and thought someone diving was goofing off with me<old friend> So finally I kept looking and I counted six sails in a row Jumping.... With no charter boats in sight... Well have a good week everyone and I have been seeing many more Seacrafts out in the water. In Boynton and Jupiter. Ps to the kid <yellow and black 72seacraft>who was jumping swells in jupiter and tried to cut me off out the inlet.. <you have to make a sharp cut south and time the swells not go straight through> LOL PSS my merc says 150 but is a 225 sucker LOL Also saw your pops at Phil foster and told him you were dogging the swells north of juno>> He did not look to happy. A great white got stuck in a tidal estuary about a mile from the ramp in woods hole.
My Buddy tuck hooked up with it and went for a sleigh ride in his wooden skiff. Then the Mass State house passed an emergency law outlawing targeting of or fishing for Great Whites inside 3 miles, which was previously an oversight. AKA the "tuck" rule. That was the year that local son John Kerry was running for president. Now and again we see JK bombing around in his 35 ft naval grey regulator, but no more great whites. DFA,
That must have been quite the encounter. Every 10 yrs or so they catch one in the Keys. How many do they lose? You go in the cage. Cage goes in the water. Shark`s in the water. Farewell and adieu to you fair spanish ladies. Did your friend find a La. license plate? Cheers, GFS |
