Macerator install - 23' Tsunami
I want to install a macerator for a fish box to grind up all the fish scales and slime I occasionally get.
The fish box will be in the large floor hatch I have between the helm and passenger seat. Currently, I use a large, Rubbermaid so the guts won't go into the bilge... Questions: - Anyone have a preference for a macerator for this job ? - It would be an easier install if I mount the macerator on the inner transom - w/ about 8' of hose from the fishbox outlet to the macerator intake. Is this a problem ? I would assume that the closer the macerator to 'the guts' the better, but that is a tougher install.. Anyone have any insight ? Thx. |

Re: Macerator install - 23' Tsunami
Macerator on the transom will work. It needs to be mounted low and then pump the results overboard above the waterline like a bilge pump. You need to use the full 1.5" hose to the pump with no reducers.
25 years ago, I had a 25' Robalo with an inline macerator mounted off the fish box. It worked great. As much as I dislike shopping there, West Marine has a 12v macerator pump on sale right now-$55. Shurflo Macerator Pump
