Default Any E-TEC owners? (warranty question)

My boat came with a relatively new 2008 150 E-TEC (55 hours - installed 2009). The for sale ad, the dealer (Authorized Evinrude) and original warranty info card from BRP states the "Extended Service REGULAR OUTBOARD ENGINES Plan" expires 6/18/14.

I received a letter from BRP yesterday, stating that I'm officially the registered owner of this 150 E-TEC, but that my service plan is good until 6/18/12. What happened to 2014? Is this merely a typo? Am I worrying for nothing? I called BRP, but they're closed weekends. This is really bothering me.

Thanks,
Paul

I'd check with the dealer if that's were you bought it. I do know that the 7 year extended warranty offered with some of the earlier motors like mine was essentially an insurance policy with a 3rd party outfit that was notorious for disallowing claims. Warranties on the newer motors are directly with BRP, who has an excellent reputation for backing them up, so you need to find out who your warranty is actually with. There is a very good E-Tech owners group forum/web site that you might want to check out. Much like this forum, it has a lot of good info on it.

I have 225 Etec that is 2006 i have had issues with the lower unit few times but never had a problem with the warranty program. I can tell you that if your motor is warrantied for 5 years than the first three are from BRP. The other 2 years are from a company called FPC it is a third party that warranties the motors after BRP is done warrantying them. Ive delt with them a few times and have not had a prob. The only thing that i don't like is that they give you all remanufactered parts not NEW . Don't worry i have 2200 hrs on my motor and all i do is replace the water pump every 200 hrs and do the fuel filter and plugs every 100hrs, and the motor still runs like the day i bought it. Oh yeah and i run XD100 oil that probably helps too.

I have an 06 225 with 1200 hours on it. No major issues with the motor however I have used my facory and FPC warranty a few times. I got a replacement injector, some work done on the lower unit, and recently a new computer. This was done via FPC with no issue on thier side. I have been very happy with them. Of course it helps to have a very good mechanic and a shop you trust that will look out for your best interest.

I expect to run mine up around 2000 hours and then repower with another etec.

DO NOT go 3 years/300 hours between service though. You will find your lower unit oil is broken down and your plugs were shot for 200 of the 300 hours.

I also run XD100 oil due to the lower consumption and the small holding tank I have.
