Default Questions about 23 potter CC

I have been looking for a SeaCraft project for a few years and finally found one within 20 mi from my home for little money. However it has had many mods over the years and the current owner knows nothing about it as he bought it for a project that he never got around to. My question is about the cap, in this boat it does not have the grab rail around the inside. It looks more like the cap design for an old aquasport. I'll try to get some pics up soon.

Thanks

Also where would I find the Hin on this boat (1975) and max capacity plate?

Aquasport made a VDR type hull some time ago if I remeber correctly. I believe it was a 19' or there abouts. Does the boat you are looking at have 2 or 3 longitudinal panels running the length of its bottom? Aquasport -2; Seacraft -3.

Hope Classic AS or Classic SC doesnt mind me linking but this is the best example I could find of the rim on the cap.

I'll start a photobucket account and post some pics of the actual boat in the next few days.

HIN should be in the usual place - upper corner, starboard side of transom - unless the transom was replaced and the HIN removed. Does the boat have a title? That will also reference the HIN.

On the CC, capacity plate should be on the console; on the Sceptre/Tsunami it would be at the helm.

I don't think the 23' Tsunami or Sceptre models have a "capacity plate" as they are larger than 20' and are NOT required. I Know my 23' Sceptre does not have one near the helm or any other place for that matter.

Thanks guys. The transom was redone (not very well) at some point and I did not notice the hin on the starboard side so it must have been removed. The seller does have the transferable regi, I have not seen it, but he showed me the hin number SECF3186M74D which he wrote on a piece of paper and gave to me. Can anyone help me understand the hin.

Is $1500 a fair price for this hull that probably needs a full rebuild?

Not so sure about that HIN. I think it should be SECR for "SeaCraft" then 3 for "23 ft" then 3 digits for the production # (ie 167 of maybe 400 produced that year), then the next 2 digits are the month in which it was produced, the last 2 digits are the year produced. And also I'm not sure about the "D" on the end. Your reported HIN seems out of wack with the norm. My VIN is based on 1977. Maybe they were different in 1975, but I don't think so. You may want to check on your VIN??? Anybody else?

Example: SECR31670575

Also, your boat may have been built in 1974 and sold / titled in 1975.

The title and HIN # should be 12 digits.

digits on title, HIN #, Meaning

1-3, = SEC, = SeaCraft
4, = F, = Super Fish for the CC hull
5, = 3, = 23 footer
6-8,= Hull # that Year, = 102 – is the 102 23’ that year
9-10,= Month build, = 09 - September
11-12,= Year built, = 76 - 1976

There would be no M or D in the HIN that’s a bogus SeaCraft HIN #
I am not saying that is not a SeaCraft Hull But that is not a SeaCraft HIN #
It could have a honest or possibly a dishonest past.
I once bought a Stolen boat and I will never buy another boat that I can't varify it is what it says it is.
