Oldfielder,
Are you getting out to Montauk this fall? I'm going to try to get down the weekend after the new moon, around Oct 9-13 or so, help close the house in Sound Beach and get out to the point for a few tides.

had three days of ridiculous topwater in the boat a few weeks ago. Bass, blues and albies busting up everywhere and some pretty good seasbassin to boot. I'll try too hit the surf this weekend, as well. I will be out there Columbus Day weekend-hopefully with the SC=the insanity should be in full swing by then with boats and surfcasters-as if it's not already

Amen brother Ken!!!! "Been there and done that" at the pass for my last time many years ago. Not sure of the proper word to describe the fishing, I'm thinking stupid is close. Years ago I had a friend who's 23' Mako interior was destroyed, along with all the fishing gear by a hooked 125# tarpon that landed in his boat....not pretty!!

If your gonna fish the pass with the jiggers, you better know how to handle your boat. There were a couple fights this year because of people that didn't. I prefer livebaiting at night. Bigger fish!

If you look at this photo, you can see the Montauk surf has already begun to bury this hull with cantaloupe sized cobbles.
From what I hear, at least there is some modicum of respect in that lineup you guys have down there. At Montauk in the fall, a lot of the fly guides (not all) run around like total a-holes with no respect for anyone else on the water or on the beach.

I agree on the fly guides at Montauk, they can be real jerks. Seen some really rude behavior by them out there.

Might be time to lay claim to that nice 23 and exercise my "salvage rights" on that boat.

I was thinking the same thing. But I don't have space for it.
If you need a hand salvaging her, I'll help.

Cheers,
Bob
