Default 20' prop

Hey I've got a 87' 20' seacraft. It has a mariner 200 on it. I don't remember the prop off the top of my head but at WOT I get 5000rpms and about 45mph

I was wondering what props other people with 20's are running and what speeds your getting.

I have an '83 20 w/ Merc 200. Of the few props I've tried, the best overall performer is a 17P Mirage+. WOT is 5600 and about 43 mph. I've used other props that produced higher top speed, but they didn't perform nearly as well at hole shot and cruise speeds.

Carl, you need to find out what the max rated rpm is for that motor, and then select a prop that will give you close to that rpm at WOT while running with a full tank of gas and the heaviest load you typically run. I'm sure 5000 rpm is too low for that motor, so your prop has too much pitch or diameter. Outboards like to rev and the boat will generally plane quicker and plane at lower speed if you're not overpropped, as I suspect you are. I'm not a Merc guy, but I'd guess it should wind up to at least 5500-5800. Fr. Frank and others will know for sure. Denny

The WOT range is 5000-5600. I would like to prop for 5600rpms. I'm pretty sure i have a 19" laser 2 on it right now. I'm going home this weekend and I will double check. A lot of people have mentioned mirage plus 17" on them. The laser 2 has a diameter of 14 inches where the mirage has a diameter of 15 1/2 inches. Just trying to find a prop that will give me the 600rpms if possible

Sounds right. My spare is a Laser 19P and does about like yours. Higher top end speed, but lower WOT RPM. And it doesn't like to cruise below 25 mph, especially with the boat loaded for fishing. Not a good thing if you're in heavy seas. If you go offshore at all, You'll like the Mirage a lot better.

Sandy (GFS) has a Mirage 3+ that he might want to sell. It's a little too much prop for a 150 but might work ok on a 200. You might send him a PM.

You are welcome to try it anytime. The Ballistic can`t be re-hubbed for omc....so I still need it. The search goes on and on and on. Denny`s PowerTech was really sweet.

Is it the Michigan Wheel Ballistic Stainless Steel 3 Blade 17p 14 3/4 diameter?

Currently i have the Laser 2 = 19p 14"
i could try the Mirage Plus = 17p 15 1/2"
or could try Ballistic = 17p 14 3/4"

The ballistic is catching my interest right now. It seems a lot like the laser 2 i currently have, just less pitch. So possibility i could get a few hundred more RPMs and keep my speed about the same?

The Ballistic has the same type of geometry as the Lazer; i.e. it is a bow lifting prop. You REALLY need a stern lifting prop. Laser, Ballistic and Rapture props are all the same type of geometry. You need the Mirage, PowerTech OFS 3 or 4 blade series, or the Trophy blade.
Personally, I really like the PowerTech OFS4.

I have a Mirage + 15.380 x 17p hubbed for OMC. These can be changed easily for any motor. Maybe not Tohatsu.
The Attwood/Mich Ballistic is 14 7/8 x 15 hubbed for Merc. They can`t be re-hubbed for OMC. You are welcome to try any.

Cheers,
GFS
