Proper Engine shaft length/21' Seacraft
I am looking to repower my 2000 21' Seacraft and the best deal I have found is a 2008 leftover 150HP Yamaha Vmax. This motor only comes with a 20" shaft, will that be sufficient for this boat or do I need a 25" shaft?

Re: Proper Engine shaft length/21' Seacraft
You'll most likely need a 25" but do yourself a favor and measure the transom to be sure. I'm no speed freak but a 150 is bordering on underpowered. It's a lot more boat than the 20' so I wouldn't go less than 175.

Re: Proper Engine shaft length/21' Seacraft
The stock transom is 25". But I agree that you absolutely should measure the transom height.
A 150 is adequate power, but nothing near generous, and will get you a nice, economical cruise in the mid-20's, and a WOT in the 36-38 mph range. Ideal is probably a 200-225 Etec, Opti, or 4-stroke. These 21's were built to hang heavier motors than the classic 20's, so don't worry about that factor. And because the hull is longer than 20', there is no legal limit to the HP you hang off the back. You could hang a 350Sc Verado if you wanted.
