Default first potter built seacraft

I finally found one here is my new 1974 20' SF. The transom was done with coosa composite and raised to twenty five inches. Recent awlgrip paint job, has an older black max mercury that runs pretty well for its age. 22 kts @ 4000 rpm and 32 kts @ 5000 i haven't had it WOT yet!

Default Congrats 'Tog

Congrats 'Tog!,
Classic look! Looks like a really nice transom job. What year and model is he motor? Coosa will offset some of the extra weight of the 150 (assuming its a 135 or 150).

32 knots is about 36 mph. If that motor is a 150 you can do better. Probably break 42-45 mph easy @ 5500 rpm.

Check the height of of you anti-cav plate relative to keel. 1 -1/4" is about right. Tell us about you prop, too - diameter, pitch, model. Have a blast!

If the Merc is a 115 you are dialed in...

Thanks blue and thanks McGillicuddy I will be updating performance numbers the motor is a 1988 135 HP if I can get 5500 out of it I should definitely see 40 mph +. I Will also post prop specs soon I would appreciate any feedback if anyone else has a similar setup. Thanks again!

Very nice boat. I've got temporary custody of a 73 20' with a t-top, 2008 150 OptiMax.
Prop is 15 1/2, 17p Mirage Plus.
Now that I have the engine at the "correct" ( acplate 1 1/2" above the keel), with modest load (40gal, 550lbs. humans) getting about 43mph (speedo, not GPS), at about 5400rpm. I trim the motor out a bit for max speed/rpm.

Just replaced the water pump as a precaution, as I've been told that this vintage (2008) Opti is susceptible to overheating...pump is low-volume, high pressure, and has since been upgraded in the newer models...but, you have to buy the newer motor, as the upgrade isn't applicable in the older motor.

Curiously, the first thing the Merc tech said when he saw the motor height was, "Motor looks too high...you might be sucking air...". I assured him that there were several on the CSC site that recommended this height, and would jump to my rescue if I cook the engine...HAH!

So...are you interested in a group buy for a splashwell to enclose your motorwell? I've been in touch with Don Herman (Hermco) and currently have 5 potential buyers. Check out the thread in the mods section...there's a great photo of what I'm talking about.

Good luck. That's a very clean boat you've got. I'm jealous!

Talking recent sea trial

Hello all i took the 20 sf on its first sea trial. The conditions in Buzzards Bay was 2-3' chop with gusty winds. I got that old merc 135 to spin 5200 @ 34.5 kts. The boat performed amazing i am extremely happy with my recent purchase. I checked the anti cav plate in relation to the keel, mine is 1/2" below i may have to raise outboard one hole. Also the prop is a 14.5" diameter and 17 pitch. PS The only time i got wet was when it started to rain!
