Default no id numbers on transom?

Been checking out a 23 the i have seen setting for years (at least 10) i think it is an eighties model because it does not have the large motor well like both my 76 boats had. I can not find any hull numbers on hull? Any ideas on where else to look I know they are supposed to have it in two places.

Mfg's are only required to have the HIN in one place so if it's not on the transom, it most likely is nowhere else on the boat. It's either a pre-'73 and/or had the transom replaced without the HIN being saved. Did you ask the seller what the title says?

Yes, 1980 or newer, my 1982 Sceptre just had a little splash well with a gate that folded down. It was actually a great set up.

Close, '72 was the first year that required a HIN. The production year for Seacrafts ended in Aug, after that it would be tiltled for the next year. It's very possible that the boat was produced in pre Aug '71 , there for it wouldn't have a HIN. I had one like that. Or the transom was redone and they cut it out....

Finny,
We're both wrong..."All boats manufactured or imported on or after November 1, 1972 must bear a HIN." This would make those boats a model year '73 or later. Also, the boat GodsReel is looking at could not have been older than a '72 since Potter didn't make the 23 until then, right?

Ya right '72 was the first production year for the 23. My '72 didn't have a HIN, Potter told me it could have been manufatured in late '71. So who knows?...

I was stopped by the USCG near the Port of Palm Beach last week for a routine license/registration check. They asked for a HIN, but I told them boat was built before the HIN rule went into effect. I read them the hull SN off the metallic decal and they were happy with that.

They didn't board boat to check for life jackets or flares, etc., but my dog Shadow tried to board THEIR boat to say hello!
