Default twin Etec 130's on a 23 with bracket

Hello to all,

I have been searching through the net to see if it would be possible to run either a pair of 130 etec's or maybe a pair of 125 opti's on a 23. I am pretty sure i read somewhere that there a member that is running twin zuke's 4s 115 on his and is getting around 28-30 mph at 4K rpm's. I have done some raw math, but not sure if it actually feasible.

T115 zukes = 4k rpms * 60 minutes * 22 pitch prop / 1760 / 36 / 2.59 = 32.17 mph
T125 opti = 4K rpms * 60 minutes * 17 pitch prop / 1760 / 36 / 2.07 = 31.10 mph
T130 etec's = 4K rpms * 60 minutes * 19 pitch prop / 1760 / 36 / 2.25 = 31.99 mph

Please let me know what you guys think, or am i completely outside of the box on this one.

Capt. Brian is the guy you're looking for, with 115 Zukes on a 23. Could send him a PM but he's not on here much lately, so try doing a search of his posts.

You need to allow for some propeller slippage of maybe 10% or so in your calculations if you haven't already done so. For that application, I think you'll find that the guys that really know those motors would recommend the 115 E-Tec over the 130! The powerheads are basically the same, but the 130 is tuned/optimized to develop more power at high rpm, so it's well suited for a light boat. For a heavy deep V, you need mid-range torque to get and stay on plane, and the experts say the 115 actually has more mid-range torque than the 130!

Default Twin 115's

Denny's right. The 115 Etec is a VERY torquey motor.

As far as max hp, the early 23's were rated for a max OB horsepower of 500, and you could request and get 600 hp max decals for the 23' SeaVette if you happened to want to drop twin 3.4L big-block Mercs or twin V8 Evinrudes back in the day.

I have a pair of 150 etecs on my 23, no bracket, and see 29-32 knts at 4100
2 mpg

if the bracket floats the back of the boat some you may see your projected numbers with the 130's, but the prop will be smaller than the 19, the 150's would not make top rpm with 19" viper 3 blades needed to be reduced.

Just saw a classic 23 cc with a bracket that had twin yamaha 150 4 strokes.... Sweet ride... Etecs are expensive to run!!! You may want to check into that... You have to run their oil 100/1 that is 40 dollars a gallon..

I get 25.5 knots at 4000rpm's and 38.5kts at wide open 5950 rpm's with Twin Suzi 115's on a bracket.

Great power package. It really has the weight to keep the ass end in the water in big seas and the torque to hold plane in rough water at slower speeds like 14-16kts in true slop or breaking waves.

The only downside is the weight of twin 4 bangers. About the same as a 350 Yami.
All in all I'd do it again or a single 300. Hope this helps.
