Took the seacraft out looking for a spot to mount transducer on the transom while the wife drove I think I might just drill the big hole in the bottom and go thru hull. It looks like too much disturbance for a transom mount. Is anyone out happy with their transom mount application?

The wife captured a couple videos enjoy.

The thruhull is the way to go for sure. It only hurts drilling the hole, after that its cake. They cost more, but they work much better.

X2. I have the Airmar B164, works great. I went with the 1000w system, if you use the 600w unit it's a little cheaper.

"It only hurts drilling the hole, after that its cake".....how true!

I cut out my in deck live well and was thinking of mounting the thru hull transducer B60 about 23" from the transom on the starboard side. Would 23" be to far forward? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I used the location where the high speed water pick up was already located on the starboard side, it was easy to get to (I moved the water pick up to the port side). It's about 30' from the transom. Looking at the Airmar web site's mounting instructions, I think you should be real good at 24" or so. Put it in the easiest location....in the flat area between the chines....for you to get to and work on. It hurts to see a 3 3/4" hole saw going through the hull, but when done it's worth it.

DonV Thanks for the response I'm going to drill the hole and use 5200 to seal it up. http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...ons/icon10.gif

I don't think my existing Garmin (port side) is even 24" from the transom. It worked well, though. I have a new Airmar that I'm hoping to install in its place. Some schmoe decided to 5200 the Garmin thruhull. I'm going to have fun drilling it out this week.

TooFly I've heard of using a thin steel wire to cut through the sealant and free it up some. What other product are you going to trust below the water line?
