My New 1974 20' Seacraft

Hello all,

First post here and glad to be the proud owner of a 1974 hull, trailer and misc accessories. The guy said it had an upgraded under deck tank to 70 gallons which would be real nice! I picked this one up for 2k without a motor and have been looking around here quite a bit and gathering performance/restore information. There is only one soft spot in the fore deck but the 15" cutout makes me a bit nervous since I like to venture offshore. I'm thinking about taking the plunge and redoing the whole boat, gulp! The good news is, I have a boating store within 2 minutes and a Revchem place about 5 minutes. Revchem sells all kinds of fiberglass, fillers and other boat building materials like Coosa bard and Durakote gel coat. Think I might be in trouble!

Thanks guys diving in already! Some cracking in the coffin and the tank is the original with the 1973 date on it. Actually not bad looking but the fill hose was shot and looked like it may have been leaking. There was a light smell of gas to the bilge and I believe that was the source.

PM sent Martin although I don't know who made the lean post unfortunately. It came as a throw in and the guy didn't know.

Get a SPLASHWELL from Hermco if you are concerned about low cut out

if the tank is a 73 and you smell fuel i probably would not take the chance, i know its expensive but well worth it.

The tank is out and I do not see any oxidation amazingly enough. The fill hose was literally wet with gas where the seams meet and was pretty brittle so that's why I'm fairly certain that was the source. Still, I do agree since it is so old and I do want to add a few gallons capacity anyway. I already found a place that does custom tanks in San Diego, CA, a few hours away. Looks like they do great work.

As for splash well I really want the fishing room back there. I had a Parker 18 for a few years and it will probably end up looking similar. Should be cutting things out back there starting this week as I have some time off work. The inside will be fully gutted after the transom is done but will never be as perfect as some of the projects I see on here, wow! I want to leave the outside hull alone and hopefully the gunnel tops, they are in such great shape, the outside transom obviously will need painting.
