Default hermco bracket?

i was looking at the brackets online because im going to need a tramsom i think, possibly after this summer. I see the single with platform is about $3300.00 for a 20SF i think... anyone know about how much labor is for this job... i was hoping to get an idea of total cost without trailering the boat 3 hrs just to get an estimate. i want to close transom and add bracket, remove the two rear hatches and drain well and just extend the foor to the transom. nothing else fancy like livewells as im on a budget. thanks in advance for any info.

Default Hermco Bracket

If you call Don I am sure he can give you an estimate what he thinks it will cost you for the work you want to be done.

Hugo,

Talk to Don. Evryone who I know who has had dealings with have been very satisfied. Not a bad word ever mentioned and his work is rated superior to most all others.

Did I say, he''s a big part of the family?

He's great to work with! Don spent a lot of time on the phone with me before I bought my boat answering questions, offering opinions, etc. After several years running the boat and deciding on refit he built the bracket and I couldn't be happier! The shipping company chipped a few areas and Don sent me the patch/gel/cleaner, etc. out of HIS pocket! Can't say enough good things and wish I was closer than 8 hrs. to have had him perform the work.

The workmanship on my Hermco bracket is flawless, plus it is optimal for my Seacraft. Don was a pleasure to do business with. You can certainly find a cheaper bracket, but none better. Another consideration... there isn't anything about your Seacraft that Don hasn't seen many times before. I wish he had been "3 hours away" for my project!

I can certainly understand you dilemma; a lot of need and less budget.

Here's the thing. There are ALWAYS two kind of buyers six months after the purchase is made:

I. The "Glad I did!" and

2. The "wish I had."

What do you want to be? Is there a cost effective minimal cost to get you out there in the meantime? Choose wisely and good luck! If you need some suggestions, ask away. The only stupid question is the one not asked. We all know some, but together there is source is a GOLDMINE of knowledge. We're all here to help!

Yep, the price of resin these days sure is an eye opener. Makes those Hermco Brackets just a little more pricey. Ohhhh, but are they worth it!!!!!
Aneyhoo, back to your issue.
Need more info, shaft/transom lenght/height?
That stressing in the corner appears to be the whole transom flexing, it also usually appears down by the fwd corner of the baitwell by the liner.
1) First of all, drill and find out if the transom wood is wet. If it is, then you should replace the transom. If it is not, then you need to strengthen the transom via some knees, then grind and glass those cracks. (This would be the cheaper method).
2) If you decide to replace transom, if you have 20" you should raise, but that will force you to lenghten motor. If it is 25" you are 1/4 the way there. You can replace from the outside, not that big a deal in my opinion. Then either plywood, Coosa or Penske Board.
There are many transom replacements on this site, search them. You can also see them here.

Don Herman is one of the best there is, Strick is also, not really sure what Strick does, I think he fixes horses, he should be a professional boat fixer, wait, he is too smart for that!
Anyway, Herman is good, one thing he can't change is the price of materials.
Soooooooo, either fix it properly yourself, or fix it temporarly yourself and save for Hermco.
