Default Safari with bastard outdrive???

Hello Seacraft folks - I have a '71 safari with an OMC stringer drive. The drive is the high profile model but the transom over top the outdrive gasket mount looks like the outdrive cutout had been recut and the drive lowered maybe 2-3 in with the cutout thinly glassed over at the top of the big drive boot. (Its cracked now)
This concerns me because it seems the plate over the prop on the lower unit of the drive sits a ways below the bottom plane of the transom even at the center.
Anyone know if the safari omc stringers were low or hi profile?? Or for that matter where the prop plate is supposed to be located in general relative to the transom bottom?

Thanks
Ron
