Default Use gelcoat for non skid???

Finishing up painting and starting to work on interior in future.
I was thinking of using waxed gelcoat and a thick/heavy nap roller to achieve a nonskid effect with the gelcoat???
Has anyone ever done this before or am I better of just using non skid additive or non skid..???
I have a gallon of gelcoat and I dont want it to expire
All help appreciated.

I haven't done this for no-skid, but lots of roller gelcoat lately. With a 3/8" or 1/2" nap roller, it should have all kinds of texture. Especially if you re-roll as it starts to kick. At that point it won't lay back down.

Also give a look at the special rollers they use to apply contact cement to formica. They have a definite diamond pattern and are solvent resist. Ditto the reroll when the gelcoat starts to kick. Good luck keep us posted on results.

Thanks Guys...I am going to experiment on a piece of wood...with thick napp roller and texture roller prior to setup. The texture roller I picked up at HD. It is used to apply drywall mud for texture walls/knockdown (resembles roller that people use for the kiwi grip)...might even stipple it with brush etc prior to setup...pics will be under my 18SF remodel thread.
Thanks again
