Does anyone have information on the location of the CG and CB on a 1974 Seafari outboard model. By the looks of it this boat has few modifications that would cause it to vary from the factory specs.
Thanx! |

Moesly always put the fuel tank right on the boat's CG, so it wouldn't change trim as you burned off fuel; assuming the CG is at the center of the fuel tank would be close. Of course he designed these boats for the biggest O/B's available at the time (mid 60's), which weighed about 300 lbs.
If your boat has a bracket and/or a much heavier motor that will shift the CG aft quite a bit. When I repowered and went from a 300 lb motor on the transom to a 429 lb motor mounted 30" further aft on a bracket, I had to move the axle on my trailer aft about 18" to keep enough weight on tongue of trailer! I have an EZ Loader roller trailer with a rear cross member that pivots when I'm loading or unloading, as the boat's CG passes over the pivot point. Based on that observation, I believe the CG on my Seafari is near the aft end of the side windshield. In the picture below, that I took one day when I was loading it back on the trailer, the boat is just starting to drop down on the forward gang of rollers, so the CG has just passed over the rear cross member, which is about 6" forward of the trailer tail light in the photo. The pivot bolt goes through an aluminum bracket with a hole in it for attaching an over-the-gunnel tie down strap.

Rusty, check your PM's. I went with Don Herman's bracket because it has the most flotation of any bracket and it's all glass, so no worries about corrosion! Denny

Its the best one out there! Worry free, and minimal maintenance required! I love mine also.
