A Ride in a Sailfish 2680WAC

Got a ride in a used 2012 2680WAC Sailfish yesterday. Boat is 26' on the Moesly-design VDH hull, and 28' overall, and has a nice wide 9' beam. I went along on a test ride with a parishioner who is considering buying the boat. Boat is rigged with twin Yamaha F250's, and a hardtop, and has just over 60 hours on it. Asking price with new Garmin 4210 GPS/depth/radar package is $89,900

All composite coring, even on the deck and gunwales. I was not as impressed with the fit and finish in the cabin, as I was with the rest of the boat. Cabin could have been finished by Bayliner from the appearance. All the hatches line up straight, but several rattled at speed. WOT is 52 mph, trimmed. Couldn't get over 49 mph at first, but I played with the motor trim a bit, and coaxed it up to 52 on the GPS. Boat is definitely over-propped, however, turning right at 5000 rpms at WOT. I think 55 mph is possible with the right props. Computer said we were burning 18.8 gph total at 28 mph, for almost 1.5 mpg.

Here's the significant part: IN MY PERSONAL OPINION, it rides better than any classic SeaCraft except the 25' Seafari, and comes very close to that standard. I was genuinely surprised. I think this is in part to the fact that it is a 5800 lb hull with the variable deadrise. We pushed it to 40 mph in 2'-3' seas (mostly 2'), and it just had a fantastic entry every time. We did get airborne once at about 44 mph, (I wasn't driving then), and then the stiff cross-wind effect on the hard-top was noticeable, rolling us right while in the air and slamming us down on the right hard-chine hard enough to rattle teeth.

My parishioner offered $72K, and promised to give me full access to the boat "as if it were my own" if he buys it.

My brother in law has a 21 Sail Fish OF with a Yami 150 carbed
I have always like the ride and the boat is finished very nice
better than the 21 Mako he almost bought

Met the president of Sailfish boats at the Miami Boat Show a couple years ago during a visit with Skip & Carla. Very nice gentleman and very much aware of Carl Moesly's pioneering work on the SeaCraft VDH design. He said he personally prefers Okume plywood for transoms and structural reinforcements, but he said you can't sell a boat today with wood in it because of concern for rot! They use a CAD system for all design work as do most modern outfits and I understand they've tweaked the bottom design a bit. Seems to have more pronounced flats at the chine for spray deflection. Overall it looks like they're building well designed and nicely finished boats.

You would think after 50 years someone would come up with a ride better than the original...just think in automotive terms

I fish a Sailfish 2660 WAC every week, and have been for the last 5 years or so.
Overall, we're very pleased with the boat, especially the ride.
The fit and attention to detail (wiring, etc.) could be better ( my buddy's biggest gripe).

It does ride like a Seacraft, gets a little wet when it's windy, but rides soft.

I had taken my buddy out in my SC a few times, and when he came to upgrade he bought the Sailfish solely because of the running surface, and he's glad he did, and so is his back.

And it catches fish.
