Default Fuel tank question

Alright. The above pictures are of my 20 SF. The fuel tank originally was under the console. This is the same tank pictured but rotated 90 degrees and slipped between the stringers. The bottom of the tank is at least 1 inch from touching the center stringer. It is tight to the stringers on the sides. I could probably force it Down and reconfigure the fuel fill to be back by the supply to the engine. The fill would then go through the console. Are there any concerns about it being such a tight fit between the side stringers. I know a lot of you like to let it breath as much as possible. There is some room, just very minimal. This would save me some decent money if I could just reuse the tank. Also in the pics you can see that I just glassed in the raised stringers. Thanks for any help. Any concerns at all??? Thank you.

Elijah

What are the issues with it? I'm no expert, just curios? To tight, no room to breath, flexing, etc... Thanks for the reply.

Thumbs down

Forcing it down could lead to two potential problems: 1.) the tank might rupture or crack a seam, and 2.) you might crack the glass on the stringers, leading to future rot problems.

The tank should have a base to rest on and yes it should breath. Once there is fuel in the tank the bottom will be under a lot of pressure. I would worry also about cracking a weld on that tank due to the tightness of the fit and flexing of the hull. Better to just have one made to your specs. It would be easier to have the fuel fill and vent on the outer hull rather then the CC. Imagine having to jump into the boat every time you need fuel up. You will have to take the pump out of the fuel station receiver, rest it somewhere on the boat....jump into the boat.... fill it up.... the pumps dripping fuel and you rest it on the boat again..... jump out of the boat.... When you get old your not going to want to do all that

Hey, I've got a brand new poly Moeller fuel tank ready to go here in Harwich.

If the dimensions work for you I can let you have it for a song.
I think it should fit pretty nicely under your new deck. Especially without the tank coffin, which is the issue I ran into...
An extra couple of gallons over your stock tank too, and you don't have to worry about it rotting out!
New sender and everything.
I'll even deliver it if need be!

Figured it was worth a shot...

I saw your post already but it is too wide. Between my stringers is only 24 inches. Thanks anyway. I'm gonna call the marine liquidators in FL to see what they have that may work
