Tsunami to CC Conversion
Hey guys, started a thread in the general forum and thought I ought to move it here by starting a fresh set of pics for my rebuild.
A little history: This is the boat with no title or trailer that was on craigslist in East Providence. Boat was in disrepair due to rotten stringers and a crack in the transom where the merc transom assembly was mounted up. Someone stripped it of all the hardware and rod holders. Boat had a 188 ford 302 mercruiser that was original and good for scrap (Too bad). So far I have already done the demo and torn the cabin off (sacriledge some say), begun the transom which I have 90% complete, the engine beds are removed and new ones are cut and ready for glass, old fuel tank has been taken out and a new moeller tank has been purchased, and today I cut the foredeck and mocked up the upside down mold that I intend to use to create the new ring deck to make it a more original looking CC. I purchased a donor boat for the new drive, hardware and trailer but still have to come up with a motor. All this has been done with the help of my beer drinking friend Ozzy and my Brother in law who is a member of this forum (hammer slammer). Always nice to have some company when you are in the throws of an obsession like boating. I was also fortunate enough to be the recipient of a donated console that member Sceptre20 had started for one of his boats that he had lying around. With that said, here are some pics to bring you up to speed. Hope you enjoy. Boat as I got it: No more Tsunami: 'Nother rotten transom: Two layers MDO plywood laminated with epoxy and two layers surface glass: $500 worth of epoxy later and five layers of biax: New Moeller 55 Gallon What lies below... New engine beds cut: New engine beds in place: New ring deck "mold" being fabricated out of MDF: New ring deck looking aft: And thats how she sits now. Ive only had the boat since November so Im not doing too bad in my mind. More to come. |

Thanks Strick, I always appreciate the input. Im really excited about the cap, looks like a boat finally! Now I can stand behind the console and dream a little bit... I can see it now.
Today, I epoxied down the engine beds. Will still need to glass them in place. Then a little more work on the hull cap and I am ready to pull the cap and glass it together. Got my Okuma Makaira 80 wides in and I'll tell you what: sometimes being an adult doesn't suck at all. (This thought actually consciously came to mind when I opened the boxes...) These babies will put out 100# of drag at full with 60# at strike. Ahhh tuna fever in the wintertime... |
