1984 CC original dark blue gel coat
Could anyone tell me where I might be able to find the original 1984 CC Blue gel coat color. I called some supplyers with SeaCrafts make, model and year but, they couldn't find anything after 1980?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Try Fiberlay out of Miami they do a lot of gelcoat matching.

Thanks Island trader.
Just got back from Fiberglass coatings, Inc. in Dania and they were very helpful with information on matching up the color. I will try tomorrow matching myself. |

You would be better off to chainsaw a hunk out of the hull and take it to Fiberglass Coatings to match, unless you are really good with gelcoat matching, or have a desire to have a gallon of unmatched gelcoat laying around. :-)

Caymanboy,
Should I cut above the waterline? Just kidding. It is only for the transom only, after building an incloser. Doesn't have to be spot on. Got it so close already that I think will be fine. Your right though. Maybe I will just drop the boat off to them for a couple days? |

Will they do that?
I think they need to put the piece in the light box, be hard to put the whole boat in there. Dark blues are hard to match, no matter who you are. |

Richard who does the gel coat matching at Fiberglass Coating, Inc. told me that he can do it but, I would have to leave the boat for at least two days. He was the same guy that matched the interior transom inclosure color for me a year ago but, at that time I gave him a hatch so, maybe he used a light box to do that? He advised me yesterday to use Harbor blue that they carry then use white and yellow oxide pigments for getting the right hue of dark blue. This morning I mixed some to try and match but, had to add a little black also. I think it turned out extremly close by my eye but, who knows, Im half fn blind anyway.
Oh, BTW,Miniwax was the first company I had tried to use and they were the ones that told me they didn't have the match for a 1984 year. |
