Transducer Placement
OK I know it has been recorded in history here someplace, but I thought I would ask anyway.
I just got a airmar b60 thru hull transducer. Instructions are pretty clear cut, but.... 1. i/o mount just forward of engine 2. Mount in a well cooled ventilated space...OK 3. If boat is capable of 25 and above-Review the installation location and operating results of similar boat...This is where I am asking for HELP! The reason is that I know that most of the time I will run at 25 to 30 so if I am out cruising to the grouper holes I guess I would like to see the bottom in case there is new structure. Normally I understand that at slower speeds is how you should be using when fishing. Thoughts?

I've mounted several of these. Just up from the keel so you can get to it. At cruising speeds they will read bottom depth fine but usually you are going too fast to really study the bottom topography. They are a great transducer just make sure that you mount it as low as possible in the boat so it will be under water at cruise. Also its a good idea to use 5200 liberally inside and out and put a little on the threads so it will lock the nut in place. Pipe wrench and big channel locks to tighten it down.
