A few years ago,I bought a fair amount of Mercruiser engine and drive parts from these guys in Florida(Go-fast).
I don't know a lot about their engine packages, but when I was thinking about a new package,I found their prices to be very good. They ship everywhere. Can't vouch for the service on engine and drive packages, but their service on parts was very good. These are list prices, but If I remember right the discounts were big.At the time I was thinking about the 383 stroker as well. They had a good price on it then as a package with the drive, but I only see the engine by itself now(last item). http://www.go-fast.com/Mercury_Mercruiser_Engines.htm http://www.go-fast.com/mercury_mercr...ine_Prices.ASP As for that Worcester ma.place,I've also heard some not so good stuff about them, although you never know, maybe it wasn't a common occurence

My friend Mike at American Marine just put one in his boat and loves it. He could probably aim you in a good direction as he is quite a cheap bastad.

You might try Port Harbor Marine, but that's Maine. Closest location is in Kittery. It is a haul, but you should only do an install once. I can ask a guy who used to work there what he thinks. I respect his opinion.
I think the best price for the parts alone might be the place in Worcester. But the installs are not great. Mine had to be re-done. Pull the engine, etc. And the glass work was nothing to write home about. I think it was IslandTrader who did it right- he got raw water cooling in a 383 ( http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...=18594&page=14 ). You will need expensive risers if you use heat exchanger/ fresh water cooled exhaust. And many (hundred$ of) manifold parts need still need replacement every 5 years or so. I am pretty sure I would go that way (raw water), if I did the install. I think. I haven't found a great alternative. Or you could go big block with injection: http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/boa/4176765292.html |
