Decided I should change the anodes on my outdrives since they're looking pretty crusty. Parts arrived yesterday, went to install them today and started with the bearing housing anode behind the props since that seemed like it would be the most difficult one to get to. Pulled the port prop and took a look... no anode... no mounting holes for said anode. So I decided to pull the starboard prop and see whats going on over there. Starboard side did not have an anode installed either but it did have the mounting holes, so I went ahead and installed the new anode and put both props back on and went on to install the other pieces. I also found that my trim rams do not have anodes nor do they have tapped mounting holes, what they do have is a 1/4" recess but no threads to mount the anodes. I've read that some drill and tap these for mounting holes but I'm not going to do that without knowing how thick the material is.
So I guess my question here is; Do I need to be concerned about the missing anode in the lower unit of the port engine? Concerned enough to pull the bearing housing and replace it with one that has the proper mounting holes for the anode? Did the older V1 drives have anodes on the bearing housings? Perhaps someone put an V1 lower unit on this drive, are they interchangeable between the V1-V2? Also, should I be worried about the lack of anodes on the trim rams? The boat stays on the trailer and I don't expect to be leaving it in the water overnight except for maybe on a rare occasion. Thanks in advance for any opinions and/or recommendations.
