Default 23 225 Verado

Anyone here ever been on or own a 23CC with a 225 Verado? I'm interested in one for sale, but the Verado seems so heavy for 225. You could have a 300 suzuki and weigh considerably less. It is on a newer model so take into account the weight distribution is slightly different on the newer models. Thanks

I think that would be fine for the newer model 23.
Not many verado powered 23's.

There is a company that can turn that engine into a 300hp with just a cal change.

I have a 250 now 275 verado on a bracket. love it. early serial 2005. lower units are brick sh*thouses if one of the later units.

05-6 200-275hp vrods only diff is the ECU.
07-* 200-300hp same story.

I sourced a OEM ECU on ebay from FL. Also check out veradoclub.com website/forum.

Supercharged engine absolutely nothing different across those above HP ranges.

275 hit a sweet spot for me. 4 blade Rev4 prop.

I had a 23 with Merc Opti 225, but just switched it out for a new 300 Suzuki. I know the Opti is lighter and maybe Verado more power?? But 225 is just enough to push that boat when loaded for an offshore trip. Of course we all want more power, so when I had chance, I went right for the 300 Zuke. She'll be ready in a week.

re-read and not sure what OP means about weight distribution is different?

verados are heavier than a 2s, with a supercharger though they have a linear torque delivery. and the HP is as rated, even over rated HP if want to spend money on premium (i dont). nice thing about superchargers is the torque curve and the fact the block and injection is the same across the models i mentioned. just an ECU difference. downside yeah its heavier. and dont overfill the oil, thats bad mojo on a supercharged engine, and one has to fill, tilt to let oil settle, check, fill. follow that manual. note the power steering pump and reservoir is under my console with the verado that helps weight.

if i was not chipping a verado, 225 is a little light. 250 was fine for me. 275 was great. meaning time to plane, cruise speed, WOT running at least 6000RPM, with a 17P 4 blade. when i run for fishing bass or tuna am pretty loaded, 130 gallon tank about 120-125 it holds in reality. 35 gallon livewell. i have an Armstrong full bracket, rather have a hermco but came with the Arm. i

anyway, i like a 250+ 4s and a 225 2s is lighter...but thats my opinion. boat is usually loaded heavy. i have tabs, a must imo for a bracket.

cant go wrong with any modern 4S frankly pick your brand Suzuki, Honda, Merc, Yamaha; more about whom your mechanic is. i try and avoid the dealer, but modern engines need to be hooked up to the computer once in a while. every once in a while any engine manufacturer releases a lemon model. there is a pile of Yamaha 350's at the local dealer under warranty getting full rebuilds, excessive vibration, and its systemic. saw that last fall and my mouth was on the floor. stay away.

the early vrods had mainly rigging issues-they like big strong batteries and fat cables. I will say around here getting Suzuki parts seems harder. no clue on Honda parts but a fellow seacraft'er here local to me has one and loves it. looks alien. if i was buying used i would pay to have it looked at by a certified tech, run the serial number. early verados had a weaker LU, so you want the beefier LU. go check out veradoclub.com as well....

I have a 1974 23 cc that I did a complete restoration from the stringers up.. It was going to be set up for a Verado 250-275-300.. Until I came across a 2012 Yamaha F300 30" with all rigging with 64 hours on it. I could not pass it up. It's mounted to the transom right now and I will be starting to rig and finish my boat so she will make the water this summer... I did look at the Suzuki 300as well..
When I bought my boat it was powered by a Johnson 200 Ocean Runner and it ran real nice.

Good luck !!
