Default Sunday's Child '71 Seafari 20 - SOLD

1971 SeaCraft Seafari “Sunday’s Child” $2700 including aluminum trailer. All original. Also has '88 Mercury 4hp kicker on bracket.

Deck is solid, transom was re-cored in 1985, and is solid and strong, but showing signs of moisture to the left of the sterndrive transom plate when I uninstalled the old transducer. Bow rail is in photos, but no longer on the boat, and the mounting holes are currently temporarily filled with marine-tex.

It has the original flip-top seat base with sink currently installed under the helm chair. New 6 gallon water tank under helm with new 1.1 gpm pump not yet installed.

Motor is the original Mercruiser 140 hp 3.0 liter, and has fairly low power due to lowered compression across all four cylinders. Motor supposedly has a about 3 thousand-plus hours on it, as it was for many years used for fishing charters in Massachussets.

I want to repower it and re-core the transom, but I cannot afford the $8K to do this right.

Original pre-alpha M/R drive had shift seal installed in 2014, as well as all new bellows and lower shift cable. Motor got new manifold and riser elbow in 2015, and new carburetor in 2015, and reman’d distributor with Pertronix Ignitor sensors in 2016.

Comes with Lowrance Elite 5 DSI chartplotter and good VHF radio with new antenna.

PICS to come when I have more time.

Still for sale. Still $2700 for boat and trailer.
I removed the cylinder head and had it magna-fluxed and resurfaced before having the valves re-seated. New-style rocker pivots with oil grooving on all rocker arms.

I was running the boat last fall, and had a loss of power that eventually was shown to be a fuel pump problem. First mechanic I took it to said I had a blown head-gasket, which turned out not to be true, but as long as the head was off, I decided to have it serviced. I'm just glad I was there to witness the head being pulled, or I might have been taken to the cleaners on this one. (My regular mechanic retired and then passed away).

Motor has about more than 3000 hours, and runs very well, with compression readings of 148, 147, 148, 145.

Original Ride-Guide steering helm disassembled and re-built. Has original steering wheel, and steers with one finger. Bow rail removed, but bases still in place for now.

Original overhead and bulkhead carpet removed, but not replaced. Navy top, side curtains and drop curtain come with it, but need seams resewn, It does come with a new bimini top. Sits on the aluminum trailer, not the galvanized one in the pic of the stern.

Today I received a cheque for the full amount! Wow!
One of my parishioners bought it and offered to let me use it whenever I wish, (providing he's not using it, that is}. It will stay at my house until he rebuilds his dock and boat lift.

"Somebody upstairs is looking out for you".

Always.

I recently signed a contract to purchase a new 33rd Strike Group 18' Bay Cat, and the day before I was to take delivery, the dealer filed for bankruptcy. Then I learned that the bank had given the entire loan amount to the dealer BEFORE I signed for the boat, and before I ever SAW the boat that was to be mine. (I had only seen the dealer demonstrator). Now the bank wants me to pay for a boat I never sea-trialed, received, or even laid eyes on, and I'm out my deposit, too. (although I will likely get that back eventuallly because I used a credit card just in case something like this happened).

So I mentioned this after church during the fellowship hour that I needed to sell my boat because of all of this, and a parishioner who is building a new house on the water offered to buy Sunday's Child after I told him I was only asking $2700. (He already owns three other boats: a 41' and a 34' Hatteras, and a 15' Hobie Skiff. The Hobie sits on the foredeck of the 41')

I'm still looking for a new boat, but my budget is only $200 per month in payments maximum. For the time being, the SeaCraft runs very well, and I just put in new Faria Chesapeake gauges, too. But with this boat and the age of it I'm not real comfortable running out to one of my favorite grouper fishing spots which is about 80 miles offshore. I'll fish it comfortably up to 12-15 miles, but further offshore I'd want to repower and restore it first, and my health no longer allows me to do all the work myself, so I can't afford it.

So the wife says get a new boat. :-)

I know nothing about a 33rd strike group boat, however if it's a replacement for what you wanted to do with your 20' Seacraft, I'm not too sure I'd take any 18' boat, new or old, 80 miles to my favorite grouper spot. Shoot, I would not take my 23'er 80 miles out without some other boats going along. Good luck looking for a new boat, especially on the $200 per month boat payment.
