Info on a 1977 20 MA
Hi All,
I am going to look at a 1977 20 MA. The boat looks to be in decent condition. What should I pay special attention to? What rots first Floor, transom, stringers? thanks in advance. |

Check List for Candidate Boat Purchase
Bushwacker put a comprehensive check list to use when considering a used boat purchase. He probably posted it. But he has done a ton of posts. So good luck in your search. Denny is the CSC Performance Moderator. He has a great memory and lots of wisdom. He took me for a demo ride in his Seafari in 1976.

Welcome aboard Rubicon! If you add your location to your profile, you may find that helps to locate other local members who may be able to help out, provide advice, etc. Stringers are all fiberglass, so no worries there. The transom is the most critical and most expensive to repair, so check to see if there is any flex when you stand on lower unit. Check cockpit sole and decks for deflection when you walk on 'em. I also have a 77 MA and my transom was shot, the floor had a couple of soft spots and the more I looked the more I found and I just redid the whole floor, the hatches covering the gas tank weighed a ton from the rotten wood, also the gunnels were also rotted.
I went 100% composite with zero wood in the boat I went with Nida Core for the floors and gunnels and a pourable product called Arjay for the transom, and I must have lightened the boat at least 300-500 lbs. I hope I have not scare you but the end result once finished will be real nice. |
