Walt Walters and Carl Moesly Connection
http://www.proboat.com/2016/03/walt-walters-1926-2015/
Anyone interested in early fiberglass powerboat design and construction would do well to read both articles cited above. Here’s why: Born in Rochester, Minnesota, Waltman M. Walters studied aeronautical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, switched to mechanical engineering, and then got married and moved to Florida. His first job was as draftsman at Scottie Craft just as the company was shifting from wood to fiberglass construction. Next was Squall King, and then a partnership with Carl Moesly (see PBB Nos. 91 and 144) building the American Marc line for Arthur Vining Davis, head of Alcoa. Smyth relates: “Unfortunately, Moesly and Walters did their laminating in their patron’s greenhouse. The fumes from the polyester resin promptly killed every one of Davis’s prize orchids.” For those that don't know Walt Walters designed the Formula 233, Cary 28 (Donzi 28), Magnum 35, Donzi 16, 18 and many others. http://www.classicoffshore.com/blog/...WaltWaters.pdf http://www.lgdonziclassic.com/pdfs/64flyer.pdf |

Thanks for the link! I always enjoy reading about these pioneers of fiberglass boat design and construction. I feel fortunate to own a 1969 SC 20 and a 1972 Chris Craft Lancer, designed by Walters and Wynn. I had not seen these articles and did not know of their connection to Mr. Carl Moesly. Interesting!

The Amazing Mister Moesly
Hey Tim-
Enjoyed the articles, thanks. I have read online The Amazing Mister Moesly article. But was unable to print a good copy of it. Do you have a pdf or link to one that prints decently? If so sure sppreciate it. This article reminds me of stories from Carla and Skip plus some new ones. If I ever sell my Seafari or pass it to the kids, i'll give them some history of what they are receiving. |

Printed Amazing Moesly
Bigshrimpin-
Thanks a lot, Tim. Unfortunately I didn't try the pdf until after I opened the other link. Was having the same trouble I had in the past. But brut forced it page by page by using print screen, opening in photo editor, cropping, etc., etc. The photos in mine are not as clear as the pdf, but the text is pretty good and it eliminates most of the advertisements. I'll scan it into a single document and save it, in case anyone wants it. As for the moeslyseacraft site, my Neat-Sea is there in the Seafari section. Thx again |
