Termites?
Seen several posts on other sites about termite infestation. Is that a big problem. After my rebuild a termite would starve to death on my rig. Never have seen this in all my year. That said, my vermin are all the stupid tree frogs pooping everywhere on my boat.

I've had a bout with termites in the cabin bulkhead of my Seabird. Closed up the covered boat as air tight as I could get it, added a whole bunch of moth balls, let it sit a couple of weeks, no termites.
Its pretty common for termites to get into the boats I work on. A real pain in a bigger boat. |

Nature will break everything down.....eventually.
Not all that surprising with 40-50 year old boats |

I did not find any termites, but my transom and starboard deck were about half eaten by carpenter ants. While the port deck only has one small soft spot, it looks like they have moved in there. I'm letting them keep working on the port deck for a while to make it easier to get that core out.

Leave the boat long enough and it would be just a fiberglass shell....... with wiring, fuel tank, steering wheel etc.

Had a huge problem. Course termites are everywhere here in Hi. I removed all infected wood. Found the mound. Put down killer. Replaced all wood with thermolite (kinda like Coosa board). Never putting structural wood in again (decorative is a different story).
So far transom, 2 bulkheads, 2 hatches, and some ugly diy 2x4 hardtop. Found mound up in gunwale near bilge vent and at helm. Geckos are your friend here they will feast on them things... |

Termites in my Seafari. How dare they?? But, they do, so I'll keep you posted on what worked. Moth balls worked great last time, but this is in a place hard to isolate. Tenting seems like more than I prefer to do. Any suggestions?

Option 1: Put your boat in your garage and have your house tented.
Option 2: NUVAN Prostrips might work but I sort of doubt it. These gas off pesticide so you don’t want to leave them in the boat if your going to be using it. Option 3: if you can find the effected area, drill a small hole into termite infestedt area and use Termidor Foam or D Foam to iinject into this area. Both of the products use expanding foam as a carrier which will pressurize the galleries and force the chemical a long way into their tunnel system. |
