78 sceptre onboard prop removal

I had the boat out last week and everything was running great until I hit a submerged log and bent my prop. So I made a puller out of 3\16 steel and some 1\2 inch bolts ,I removed the prop nuts and noticed the key is sheared and the slots are 180 degrees out. I tried the puller but the prop won't budge .Anybody ever had this issue or know how I can get this prop off,any help will be appreciated.

When I used to change large props in marinas we had a prop puller (~40 lbs) that had a large bolt that lined up in the center of the shaft end - tightened everything up and then hit end of the bolt square with a hammer. Usually had to smack it pretty good. Kinda challenging underwater - had to make sure everything was tied off first too or it would sink deep into silt/muck when it popped off. It was kinda scary the first time. Never did it out of the water but it is probably easier.

Did you try any heat, yet?

I tried to hit the end of the shaft with a hammer but the rudder is in the way so I couldn't hit it too hard . Heat is the next step will propane be hot enough or do need to borrow some torches.

Strike In between the blades with a ball peen repeatedly with the tension on the puller. Add some heat if all else fails.

You may have to remove pull the boat from the water and drop the rudder shaft if the combination of heat and tension doesn't do it.

Tighten the puller as much as you can, then apply an acetylene flame from a rosebud tip. Propane and MAPP torches just don't get hot enough. It can be helpful to also apply a thin stream of water to the shaft to keep it cool while you're heating the prop hub.

DO NOT stand behind the prop, but stand off to one side.
Every now and then the prop will release suddenly and with great force. If that happens and a blade hits you you could be suddenly dead with 6"-7" inches of propeller buried into your body.

I had an employee removing a wheel from a 28" John Allmand back in the 80's who was hit with a prop like that. He required extensive surgery after the prop embedded a blade 3" into his abdomen when it jumped off the shaft like it had been fired with a gun.

I finally got the prop off . I broke the first puller ,made some modifications and it worked as advertised. Thanks for all you're imput.
