Default Help porposing

So got out to try my 23 with 300 Suzuki 30 inch shaft and I’m experiencing porposing. Setup is a3x16x20 prop and it seems to need more torque to get on plane .When I measure keel to AV looks like 4 inches . I feel like I need to raise motor 2 holes and change prop to 18.5. And add weight forward . Raising engine 2 holes going to put it about 5 1/2 inch spread AV to keel. Any help would be great

If it sits low in the rear at rest you will defiantly need weight forward. You may can try trim wedges also maybe? but sounds like a weight balance issue. The 20's will do this badly but don't hear as much problems out of the 23s as much.

What bracket do you have? I had the same problem until I raised the motor way up and got rid of the Suzuki prop. Give me a little bit and I will go measure my set up and post up some pics. Stand by

Ok, I went out and measured with a straight edge and the top of my A.V. plate is 4” above the bottom edge of the keel. My Hermco twin bracket is mounted 1.5” higher than recommended so the holes where my 300 are mounted would likely differ.

I did try running a 20” pitch Suzuki wheel but the boat hated it and was very unstable over 30 knots. I ended up with a 22” pitch Mercury Bravo 1 and it has been nothing but magic on my set up. Way more stern lift, better performance and way better handling all around. Suzuki props work fine on Transom installations but bracket installations need better props that can run higher near the surface. I also tried Powertech but my setup didn’t like them as well.

Default Porposing

Thx moose and everyone. So I just left work international and the raised it the last 2 bolt holes as high as it will go. Yesterday when I measured AV to keel at
4 1/4 inch so 4.5 +1.5 =6 inches Av to keel. They also switched to an 16x18.5 from 16x20 and I have put fish box loaded and other heavy boating stuff we use that’s heavy forward. The weight forward has my trailer riding like it use to so I no my CG is improving. I am leaving for summerland in morning and will test in the Nile channel nice and smooth and report tomorrow nite with results. Moose I will pick up the prop u mention when I can and add that to the bag of tricks when I get it

mercury props are the best. they spend more money on reasearch and development than anyone else. i would follow Moose advice above, or call ken at propgods. tell him exactly what is going on, and you want a merc prop, not the powertech because it is cheaper. he will dial you right in and best of all if not right you can do an exchange for $30 and ship prop back and keep on doing that infinitely until you are happy, but history shows he always nails it spot within 1st try or 2... it's truly amazing what kind of difference a prop can make. i would definitely go for a good stern lift prop like the rev 4. there is a new 4 blade out from merc called the bravo1 FS (Four Stroke) that is getting rave reviews. it's a labbed prop right out the box from mercury racing and those pathfinder guys are going nuts over it.... call ken and ask him about it, try one out and see what she does. i love playing with props but my wallet doesn't.

The bravo 22 is a good choice unless you need lower pitch "es or if you can find a rev-4. I know they go down to 15p if needed rpm wise. Even the Mirage plus 3 blades have a lot of stern lift. Cant go wrong with a Mercury Prop

Ok as I said I’m going to call prop gods . Question want to get the most I can with Suzuki prop that comes with boat. I have tried 20,18 1/2; and now a 17 .
I was not able to run the 17 all the way up yet when I was out this week a little choppy but can really feel the torque maybe to much when I get on some flat water I will be able to check. Question what 4 blade Suzuki prop would be somewhere between a 17 and 181/2 3 blade performance wise .

Running and happy with Powertech OFS4R16 on my Yamaha 300. I think there's a difference in gear though. Ken helped me choose this one and was great to work with.
