Alan ...Is there a reason why your not just glassing the areas over ??

I took the Formica wood grain panel off, built a replacement panel out of Gel coat and Fiberglass( the whole molding table route) and thought why not just glass and fair the dash panel .... which is what I did...came out great

Hmmmm. I like the fiberglass idea - that's why I was trying to buy it pre-made ( it seems like a decent amount of mat and a little work to make 1/4" thick panels ) And, I have so much other glassing and things to do, that it is worth it for me to just buy what I need - if I can buy it cheaply enough.

As to gallsing it in: I want to use a panel that can be fully pull forward / removed, allowing me to gain access to behind the panel when I need to do electrical work on the gauges etc.

Thx for the idea though.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Gotcha !!!

As for the panel ... I wouldn’t build it up with mat. That might take awhile..I would put core material in like aircell or balsa (I think you can get that stuff 1/4") even luan would work....Then on the molding board...a good layer of Gel coat first ...let it slightly tack up/kick ...layer of mat ... resin .... core material ... resin and mat to finish the back side…..
