An exhaust riser off the turbo of the engine.

The key problem with inboard engines is the tendency for saltwaterto enter the engine/turbo coming INTO the exhaust. While the engine is off, it is very common in poorly designed exhaust systems for a "slug" of saltwater to come up the exhaust tube and into the engine. To prevent this, you need 2 things: 1) a surge tube and 2) a riser that has it's lowest point at least 12" above the waterline.
