2 4'x8' sheets of 3/16" should be about 170 lbs. Tanks are usually 5052--H32 alloy. This is perhaps the most common sheet metal forming alloy. Spot price was $0.82/lb earlier this month. If you pay much more than $3.00 a lb retail it isn't a great deal. Plus tank labor. So $500 in aluminum, plus cut, weld, machining for fittings, testing, overhead and liability.
To me $2,000 seems high. Not crazy, but not cheap. The price for three 56 gallon polyethylene tanks is between $1600 and $2000. Usually aluminum tanks are cheaper. But they corrode.
